Bergen, our first stop in Norway

Hello from Norway! Our first stop here was Bergen, "city of seven mountains", established sometime in the 12th century.

Bryggen, the old wharf of Bergen, is pictured below. These iconic wooden townhouses have been repeatedly damaged by fire throughout history. After each fire the townhouses have been rebuilt, with the medieval property structure and building techniques painstakingly followed. The last of these fires was in 1955, so preservation now takes priority. In fact, if you look carefully, you can see that a facade is currently over two of the townhouses (the red and the towards the middle) as they undergo restoration work.

I'm always game for Harry Potter references. - especially a sign pointing to "Hogsmeade" outside of staircases that resemble the moving staircases of Hogwarts. (Hi Joey!!! ❤️ I know you'll appreciate this!)

Other random shots from walking around Bryggen and back towards the main city center of Bergen, plus a shot of me when I realized I'd stayed behind the lens so far in Bergen.

The view at Lille Lungegårdsvannet, an octagonal lake at the center of Bergen and surrounded by a park.

Bergen's outdoor fish market ("fisketorget") which has been in operation since the 1200s. Toby does NOT like seafood but now we can check whale off our list of exotic foods to try! (In his defense, he's tried warthog.)

The colors of the Bryggen townhouses captivated me! Here's my red and yellow series.

...as well as the white series.

A sneak preview of our stay in the Norwegian countryside. For anyone wondering, we're currently in Gudvangen and heading to Oslo tomorrow!
